It’s official, my 26th birthday has passed and I am now living life from the Otherside of 25. Maybe it’s my current frame of mind but I feel more enthusiastic about the future. For the first time ever, I feel like a mature adult. I’m no longer scared of getting older or failing to achieve my dreams. There is a personal growth goals that I’ve set for myself and will be working to achieve but regardless of the outcomes, I choose to be more mindful of my strengths and current accomplishments.

This past year has been emotionally and mentally challenging but without experiencing the lows of depression, I wouldn’t be able to fully understand the journey into adulthood. My life’s a mess and I sincerely doubt that I’ll ever have everything figured out but I am actively working towards becoming a more self-positive person.

In this moment, I can truly say that my flaws and mistakes have opened my eyes to all of the experiences and opportunities that life has to offer. I’m sure I’ll have bad days as well as good but my birthday marked the beginning of a new year. A New Year that symbolizes fresh starts and overwhelming optimism of the future. It’s taken some time for me to get to this place of tranquility and I wanted to share some of the valued lessons I learned over the past year.

      1. Be Present In Life

Love yourself and then learn to love others. Be present in your life and those around you. Focus on your family and the positive people in your support system. We all need someone to share our joys and sorrows with. Show the people who are always there for you love and support in return.

2. Life is Uncontrollable

You can make plans and goals for yourself but the truth is that nothing is ever guaranteed. Every dream you see for yourself is unpredictable.  You can’t control the experiences and opportunities that come your way. Learn to be open and receptive to the changes in your future plans.

      3. You’re Exactly Where You’re Meant to Be

It’s so easy to lose focus and find faults in your life. Just because you’re not living the life you saw for yourself in the past doesn’t mean you’re not blessed. Stop comparing your achievements to the people around you. So their life seems great BUT focusing on them will get you nowhere. Yeah, you’ve got some work to do on yourself but know that the struggles are what make you a better person.
