Happiness is what we all aspire to be. To be content in our careers, families, friendships and love lives. Sometimes obtaining happiness can feel like a fleeting moment. It’s never guaranteed but neither is it impossible. It takes work to become someone who is truly happy. 1. They love themselves wholeheartedly
No one is a bigger critic than your inner self and it’s easy to get lost among the dialogue. Knowing how to listen without self-judgment and ridicule can make a difference in your overall contentment. Being happy doesn’t mean ignoring your flaws but instead accepting them and learning to love yourself wholeheartedly and unconditionally.
2. They refuse to compare themselves to others
In the age of social media, we can often become disillusioned with our realities. We see family, friends and even strangers experiencing things we could only envision in a dream. They post of their travels, careers, relationships and even hobbies. Naturally and often without realizing, we begin to make comparisons to our lives and theirs. Acknowledging your own personal accomplishments and milestones while also being encouraging of theirs creates a balanced and happy mindset.
3. They are mindful of their mental health & wellness needs
Mental health is a complicated subject that includes our emotional, psychological and social-wellbeing. It’s our ability to make choices, rationalize life experiences and most importantly be mindful of our own needs. It’s essential for your overall happiness to be intone with yourself. Life is a roller coaster of emotions, especially for women. It can be just as hard to seek help as it is to ignore any problems. Recognizing that it is ok to not be happy all the time yet be comfortable with putting your mental health first will lead to a more positive and healthy you.

4. They are optimistic yet realistic
Have you ever known someone who is always complaining or being a classic Debbie Downer? Imagine if you had to be in constant contact them. Do you think that their negativity would eventually effect you? Well, what if the downer was actually you? There’s no way you could escape yourself and eventually, it would impact your health. There’s no need to be roses and sunshine all the time but staying optimistic and maintaining a sense of realism will see you through the dark moments.
5. They are surrounded by a positive support system
The people you choose to surround yourself with will always have a major impact on your own happiness. A negative person can just as quickly become a fixture in your world as someone positive. It’s not always possible to choose who you allow in your life but finding like-minded people who reflect both the person you are and hope to be is an important part of establishing a positive support system. Surround yourself with those who support you through the wildest dreams and celebrate with you when they come true.

Your schedule is busy and life is always hectic, I understand. In the midst of all the chaos we can forget to mark ourselves as a priority on the list. Creating a balance and self-care routine is important in managing stress and anxiety levels. Being consumed with all the daily tasks without taking a moment to relax will undeniably end in a burnout. Be proactive in taking care of yourself by doing more of the things you love and happiness will follow.
No matter who you are, happiness equates to taking proper care of yourself.
